Project Pilgrimage: Conversations Across Difference

At Project Pilgrimage, we believe difficult conversations are sometimes the most liberating.

Join us for Conversations Across Difference: Voices of the Movement

Project Pilgrimage continues our Conversations Across Difference series with a film screening and discussion of music documentary, Patrinell: The Total Experience. “Patrinell” chronicles the life of Seattle Pastor and musical icon, Patrinell “Pat” Wright and her internationally-recognized Total Experience Gospel Choir as it intersects and clashes with the everchanging landscape of Seattle.

Pastor Wright founded the Total Experience Gospel Choir in Seattle’s Central District, the largest and oldest African American neighborhood in Washington State. “Patrinell” unfolds through a series of home-movie footage and personal interviews, offering an inside look into the evolution and international success of the Total Experience Gospel Choir, despite racism, rapid gentrification of the city’s Central District and other opposition. Through Pastor Wright’s deep faith, leadership and music, Total Experience Gospel Choir had a lasting influence on the PNW's music scene, becoming a pillar of Seattle's black community.

After the screening, we will be joined by Pastor Pat Wright and “Patrinell” co-director and former Total Experience Gospel Choir member, Tia Young for a post-film Interview and guided conversation. Young and Pastor Wright will speak to the importance and power of music in the Civil Rights Movement and sing from their songbook of Freedom songs.

Suggested donation: $20.00* RSVP
